For popular or very good threads
ha well, so you say, yes. But i suggest that there might be better understandings ok
There is no “Jesus, returning” in the NT, strangely enough; its hupo strepho in Greek fwiw
No, so says the Bible. I suggest you read yours a little closer. In John 14:3, Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for us then He would "come again" (ἔρχομαι πάλιν) to receive us. At Jesus' ascension, the angles told the disciples Jesus would "come in like manner" (ἔρχομαι ὅς τρόπος). So, while Jesus does not say He would return, He does say He will come again, which imho, means the same thing. That's why I've made my preparations for His return. Are you ready?
well Scoot, means the same thing to you, yes, and many others, but having been in that world, that camp, i am just comfortable now with having come from there, and not making preparations for any return that no one can Quote, even one single time, with all due respect. Today has become my focus now, iow

So no offense meant, ok, but no, the Bible does not say that, not one single time, you cannot Quote it even once—except in bad english translations maybe—and tbh i have found a better—for me anyway—interpretation of Christ, Who comes, appears, is revealed, but never “returns,” that now i dont have to ignore the many vv like All go to the same place, No one has ever gone up to heaven, There is only One Immortal, on and on, see.

When you have finally abandoned the (Cult of Sol Invictus) notion of becoming immortal after death, a lot of the Bible becomes a lot clearer—even if somewhat of a letdown maybe, at first anyway, Knowledge brings sorrow—and i just got tired of having to ignore so much of it, tbh, bc it didnt fit with common beliefs. Apollos waters

Anyway, i dont see a problem with seeking and learning each at our own pace, and after all there are new seekers every day, right. But i tell you what, “forty years” starts to make a lot more sense in hindsight, lol. ok peace

I’m going to stick with my theory that Paul had heard this, and expected to hear more and have the claim firmed up as time went along. This didn’t happen, and he stopped including it. To his credit. Paul might have been in the state of not knowing one way or the other, regarding this particular claim.
And you are perfectly free to believe this. Even if you have nothing to support it.
I don’t feel the burden of proof is on me.

well, or Paul means, in the second case at least. He even kinda tries to describe that,
Wuestion, staying with the group or going alone on religion?

Of necessity, Paul had the loneliness of a leader. First this other guy, then Timothy.

I think modern day evangelists like talking with each other because it’s talking with a peer. Paul didn’t have this.

Adamu meant…more or less what Adam means to us, in ancient Akkadian (Babylonian), and half of the Decalogue (at least) descends from Hammurabi, or even earlier. Eve and the snake under a tree of knowledge is clearly kundalini (Hindu? dont feel like looking it up lol)

Paul referred to practically every current wisdom school in his writings; Stoic, Nazarite and Nazarene, Epicurean, Gnostic, on and on
I like all this stuff. Meaning, I’m at least interested in it.

Then, I pick and choose and put my own thing together. And at the end of the day, what else can any of us do?

PS I like real pithy descriptions of philosophies, like maybe 3 sentences, or maybe just a single phrase. And sometimes even a cartoon can do a pretty good job of summarizing a philosophy.

For example, I think Epicurean-ism meant more to the Greeks than fine food.

No offense taken. I don’t know what camp you came out of or what camp you are in now. But I do know Jesus said He was coming back. I also don’t know why you say I cannot quote this because there are thousands of manuscripts which record Jesus saying He would come back in a number of different languages. I just happen to speak English so I can read and quote from the King Jimmy version. I am looking forward to His return with great enthusiasm. I can probably understand why you aren’t.

^ ha, priceless lol; you prolly wont be having to eat those words at all, almost surely probably ^

ha, good question. What with Jesus’ general remarks about the religious, and what we can learn about the influence of the Cult of Sol Invictus on nascent Christianity…even to They were first called Christians in Antioch (the code being the Antioch part), i have to assume that Paul—whom i suspect did not exist, fwiw—thought of religion as “of the world,” which we might further verify by their tax arrangements with various governments, and even the extent to which politics and religion appear to be two sides of a fiat coin.

It might be too far to go to suggest that Jesus is broadly worshipped now as Apollos—with all the moving about, iow—without at least some supporting evidence, but it seems to me that very few are not waiting for Jesus to do something, right? Either to literally return, which cannot be Quoted even once btw, or to appear in the “clouds,” or some other Magical Thinking scenario?

At the same time, religions seem to have a place, Apollos waters, and Paul even acknowledges which wisdom school he derives from, like all rabbis then did, …of Tarsus, https://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Tarsus.html , and the allegory of religion as trees or wood you are likely already fam with. The point possibly being that we all have to start from somewhere, and there is nothing necessarily wrong with that somewhere, but it will influence thinking

prolly not, broadly speaking, but there was apparently quite a bit of wisdom exchange then that we cant really see; the wise men (from Persia), the Eunuch (reps the large community of Ethiopian Jews then), and some others

youd think, right? But i guess we have to allow that many never really seek much, and just accept what they are handed on a plate

i agree, ya. i have some great cartoons lol
For example, I think Epicurean-ism meant more to the Greeks than fine food.
ya, thats what has come down to us, but i guess it was a whole thing back then?

oh, prolly similar to yours i guess; American, baptist, charismatic, full gospel, pentecostal, etc
or what camp you are in now. But I do know Jesus said He was coming back.
Well…Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you, and you cannot Quote the part you know, wadr; how can hupo strepho not be in there in context one single time even?

But fwiw you might amble a bit more, rather than so confidently running…bc there’s a cliff up ahead, ok?
I also don’t know why you say I cannot quote this because there are thousands of manuscripts which record Jesus saying He would come back in a number of different languages. Ha well, prolly not, sorry; man, i recall when i was exposed to this, and the nights i spent hoping to find “return” in there once even…guess i didnt sleep for a couple weeks prolly? But fwiw i would enjoy your time in your religion for as long as you can, ok? Those were some of my best memories, there in the camp, lots of good food, fellowship, youre being exposed to Scripture—albeit selectively—that will come in handy, youre around like-minded ppl, on and on.

Should you desire, you can read from a lexicon or interlinear Bible, https://biblehub.com/lexicon/matthew/1-1.htm , and that tends to be fairly revealing, although i still have a fair amt of respect for ol Queen James’ version, despite its flaws; but we just dont talk that way any more, and the having to translate twice was dragging on me after a while.

But youll likely make some interesting discoveries at “pray,” and even “lord,” although i guess they wont immediately be very comfortable either, but like xlating Gehenna into Hel, idt they were being deliberately obfuscating; they just had no better terms to use.

There is a sort of cliff that you might approach, in reading the Bible…i guess No son of man may die for another’s sins might be one way to approach it, and it is hard to justify that with Christ died for our sins, and to make both be true. So, you might back away from the cliff, or sit or stand looking over it, or jump off even, and its all up to you, and everyone is different.

We naturally bring our own biases and beliefs to any new thought process, and these are hard to shake; they define our MO, basically, and while change your mind can sound as easy as having something different for dinner, it can also describe a process that makes mushrooms seem pretty tame lol.

And fwiw i pretty much suck at this, what im doing here; i dont really have the patience, and i have just enough ass burgers that irdc lol, not the best combo prolly. Anyway, i believe in Christ, ok, and i dont expect that any two of us would ever believe ezackly the same anyway? peace

I have several Hebrew and Greek lexicons, Bible dictionaries, and a Bible study program on my computer I refer to. My Bible study method is generally in-depth and thorough.
