Here's one view that I couldn't agree with more... takes all of the politics out of the air...

Smith also critiqued Trump for his choice, adding that as president of the U.S., “your duty is to lead the nation effectively and productively. This requires not only loyal supporters but also highly competent advisers capable of offering the best possible guidance.”

An "associate" of Gaetz pled guilty for sex trafficking?
The Democratic senators, led by Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), say the allegations against Gaetz are “significant” in light of his associate, Joe Greenberg, having pleaded guilty to the sex trafficking charge for which the Florida Republican was also investigated.

Look, in the grand scheme of things, engaging with prostitutes when it's between consenting adults is not the biggest crime in the world. But when you're still doing that as a leader, which Gaetz is accused of doing, and still under investigation for it, then you gotta step down and get help! Not elevate the guy to a leading law enforcement decision. WTH is Trump thinking...

Gaetz is out!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Matt Gaetz withdrew Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general amid continued fallout over a federal sex trafficking investigation that cast doubt on his ability to be confirmed as the nation's chief federal law enforcement officer.

The woman who says she had sex when she was a minor with then-Rep. Matt Gaetz told the House Ethics Committee she had two sexual encounters with him at one party in 2017, sources familiar with her testimony tell CNN.

The woman, who was 17 years old at the time, testified that the second sexual encounter, which has not previously been reported, included another adult woman. She also testified to both sexual encounters in a civil deposition as part of a related lawsuit, sources said.

After being asked for comment for this story, Gaetz announced he was backing out as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee.

It would kind of be thrilling to see on the news Trump using the military to arrest illegal immigrants. I’ll admit it.

But it’d be jarring to the economy. And it’s not what we’re about as a nation.

• I’m bringing this up because Trump’s next pick give Atty Gen may be terrible on policy.

•• E-Verify and Employer sanctions such better options

Im willing to bet that he's bluffing to some degree. I'd rather his admin focus on fixing the immigration process, like getting rid of catch-and-release. Bringing up mass deportation is just provocative, imo

Im sure even Trump recognizes that we are in a pop decline, and new blood is required? Iow i doubt that there will be any mass deportations, even if we are starting to see that bandied about

I hope you both are right.
Here's the way I look at it. Trump's rhetoric would make it seem that he hates all immigrants and want them out ASAP. But, he can also be practical. I believe he can deport all of the immigrants that have committed crimes while in the US, while using the other immigrants as leverage to get comprehensive immigration reform passed. I can see Trump bargaining with Democrats by saying, hey, you give me comprehensive immigration reform/border wall, and I'll give you amnesty.

Of course, there's a possibility that I'm wrong and he does otherwise. He could just go full military style rounding up every last immigrant, including elderly and children, and to do it all in front of the mainstream media, not caring how the Left-leaning networks would spin it, and just deport them all. Regardless of if the law is on his side, but the optics of carrying that out would be terrible.
