I mean, with the game plan of picking someone really awful and later slowly and reluctantly withdrawing that pick. And then you can nominate someone half-way awful who might be just as damaging.

I honestly can't comprehend why someone would be picked given the things he is accused of doing of paying women to have sex at parties. I heard the DOJ dropped their case but there's still an ethics investigation going on. To pick someone in the midst of that is questionable to say the least. Shows bad judgement on Trump's part and/or he needs better advisors.

USA TODAY report...
WASHINGTON — A partisan standoff appears to be brewing over whether a House Ethics Committee report will be released before the Senate considers President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Matt Gaetz for U.S. attorney general.

Gaetz, who resigned Wednesday shortly after his nomination, has been the subject of a three-year investigation by the panel over allegations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, accepting “improper gifts” and giving out special favors to individuals with whom he had relationships.

The House Ethics Committee, which expanded its probe in June to include additional allegations, was to decide on Friday whether to release its report, but his resignation effectively ended the investigation.

I like the pick only in the sense that it's non-traditional. I'd like Trump to choose outsiders (like a Elon Musk or even Ramaswamy), but Gaetz has baggage with some potential dirty laundry inside!

I agree. So much so, that I’m asking, “What Jedi mind trick is Trump trying?”

Maybe he’s giving Republican Senators 1 or 2 nominations to easily reject. That way, it will appear they’ve done due diligence. And the rest of the nominations sail thru?

Nothing would surprised me. The thought is that Trump loves his loyalists. I remember Matt Gaetz being loyal to him, and I believe they both reside in Florida. I mean if that's all that Trump is going by then that's a huge negative to say the least.

There's already some internal pushback in the party seeing that some Republicans in Congress might leak an ethics investigation about Gaetz.

Some disturbing details already starting to come out about Rep. Gaetz. Not saying they are true but not a good luck that an investigation has to end at the moment that Trump is leaving Congress. Here are some details so far reported by CNN:

CNN — Two women testified to the House Ethics Committee that they were paid for “sexual favors” by former Rep. Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, a lawyer for the two women told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Monday.

Additionally, one of the women testified to the congressional panel that she witnessed Gaetz having sex with her then-underage friend in 2017, the lawyer, Joel Leppard, said on “OutFront.” CNN reported that detail Friday.

Leppard said it was his client’s testimony that she did not believe Gaetz knew at the time that her friend was underage.
One of Leppard’s clients was a friend to the then-minor from when they were both in high school, the lawyer said Monday.

“She was invited to a party in July of 2017,” Leppard told Burnett of his client. “She testified to the House that as she was walking out to the pool area, she turned to her right and she witnessed … her friend having sex with Rep. Gaetz. And her friend at that time was 17.”

Leppard said both of his clients testified to the congressional panel that they received payments for sex from Gaetz, usually via Venmo or PayPal, from the summer of 2017 through the beginning of 2019. Leppard said there were “numerous events” at which his clients were paid for sex by the Florida congressman.

“There were events at Airbnbs. There were events at individuals’ houses. There were events that took place at political events,” Leppard said. “There was a trip to New York. There’s a trip to Bahamas. So events like this did happen from time to time, perhaps over 10 times over the course of July 2017 to early January 2019.”=
After its yearslong sex-trafficking investigation, the Justice Department decided not to bring criminal charges against Gaetz. CNN previously reported that prosecutors working on the case recommended against charging Gaetz because of questions over whether the central witnesses would be perceived as credible before a jury.

Thank you for using news items pertaining to former Florida rep. Gaetz, and not just stuff you’ve heard on Facebook like many people do elsewhere.

Look, Trump is all about revenge. He’s going to cheat and “weaponize” the Department of Justice because he’s said that’s what the Biden Administration has said.

will pull a reference on this, but it will probably be an editorial

Look, Trump is all about revenge. He’s going to cheat and “weaponize” the Department of Justice because he’s said that’s what the Biden Administration has said.

There's this statement of his:
During the campaign, Trump has made different statements about whether he might target people who’ve upset him. What he’s said can be construed in different ways. He gave a speech last year hours after he was charged with mishandling classified documents and said that if elected, he would “appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the United States of America: Joe Biden and the entire Biden crime family.”

But he was also asked the question specifically and here is his reply:
He told Fox News last month in an exchange about weaponizing government against political foes: “I don’t want to do that. That’s a bad thing for the country. I don’t want to do that. I haven’t said that I would. But they have done it.”

Both statements come from NBC News reporting.

Character-wise, I think he has it in him to go after his political rivals. He denied that he would do that when asked directly, but I doubt he would ever admit to something that like that anyways. In fact, I suspect that's one reason why he wants Gaetz in as the head of the DOJ. He might be thinking that Gaetz would be an easy person he can use to do his bidding.

If I were him, I would focus on the economy and immigration, and leave all of the other drama out. Perhaps try to get policy passed that would make it hard to use lawfare to begin with.

at least most of the drama

Spend more time traveling to different parts of the country, touring manufacturing facilities and other workplaces, and learning about local economic conditions.

Shift to . . .

slightly under-promising and slightly over-delivering.

I hope!

politics is such a great divider innit
Yeah, and it's getting worse. Imagine when kids start choosing who to play with based on political affiliation. I'm sure they are learning a lot from us adults.
