And I don’t think we should tell each other about donating or not donating to charity. It’s personal. And I think it’s good to keep it personal.

My goal here is just to raise some possibilities. And add to our skill and knowledge set.

And I think Catholic Relief Services is the largest Catholic good works organization.

I think a medium amount of religion is fine —

Moses leading the children of Israel out of bondage.

David writing the psalms about being open to God’s will, inspite of his sinful past. David had Bathsheba brought to him in a bullying situation, less than full choice especially since he was king. And he instructed that her husband be positioned in the front lines of a battle, and that the other soldiers be withdrawn [unlikely he would do something this blatant in front of his military officers]

All the same, it’s sexual sin writ large. It’s like Shakespeare in that sense. Something we can all connect with.

Anyway, the problem is that teenagers end up believing religion is literal truth. That’s why I think we should basically tell children and the entire congregation— Religion is pretend. It’s story and example.

I’m going to summarize the New Testament

But you, too, dear reader, I bet you’re pretty good at summarizing what’s most important to Christians. And I’d encourage you to start with casual, healthy Christians. I mean, people who thank goodness don’t take it all that seriously.

Prove it. Show me empirical evidence that Christianity is pretend. Prove to me that Abraham did not exist; that Moses did not bow before the burning bush. Prove to me that Jesus was not crucified and resurrected. If you cannot prove your claim I suggest you amend your argument.

What’s most important is our reconciliation with God. Hell is too hot and too long not to be taken seriously.

Agreed. Some just do it for show well not really caring for the cause.

Meaning, we’re basically asking, Can God create a rock so big he can’t move it?

Don’t you think?

I mean, why would God create hell in the first place? And before we get to the claim that God is “holy and can’t allow sin in his presence” or something similar, is God really that much of a wilting flower? That it would be inconceivable for God to walk into a bar where people are drinking and swearing.
