1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
3 The Lord is a man of war;
the Lord is his name.
4 “Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea;
and his picked officers are sunk in the Red Sea.
5 The floods cover them;
they went down into the depths like a stone.
6 Thy right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,
thy right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
7 In the greatness of thy majesty thou overthrowest thy adversaries;
thou sendest forth thy fury, it consumes them like stubble.
8 At the blast of thy nostrils the waters piled up,
the floods stood up in a heap;
the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.
I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’
10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them;
they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
11 “Who is like thee, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like thee, majestic in holiness,
terrible in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

12 Thou didst stretch out thy right hand,
the earth swallowed them.
13 “Thou hast led in thy steadfast love the people whom thou hast redeemed,
thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy abode. . . ”

And there it is.

The writer of Exodus, just like most people of his or her time, believed there was more than one God. Just that the God of the Hebrews was best! :)

It’s Moses who is speaking. This is said at the end of the previous chapter.

1 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak;
and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2 May my teaching drop as the rain,
my speech distil as the dew,
as the gentle rain upon the tender grass,
and as the showers upon the herb.
3 For I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Ascribe greatness to our God!
4 “The Rock, his work is perfect;
for all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,
just and right is he.
5 They have dealt corruptly with him,
they are no longer his children because of their blemish;
they are a perverse and crooked generation.
6 Do you thus requite the Lord,
you foolish and senseless people?
Is not he your father, who created you,
who made you and established you?
7 Remember the days of old,
consider the years of many generations;
ask your father, and he will show you;
your elders, and they will tell you.
8 When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance,
when he separated the sons of men,
he fixed the bounds of the peoples
according to the number of the sons of God [or, Israel].

9 For the Lord’s portion is his people,
Jacob his allotted heritage.
10 “He found him in a desert land,
and in the howling waste of the wilderness;
he encircled him, he cared for him,
he kept him as the apple of his eye.
11 Like an eagle that stirs up its nest,
that flutters over its young,
spreading out its wings, catching them,
bearing them on its pinions,
12 the Lord alone did lead him,
and there was no foreign god with him.

13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth,
and he ate the produce of the field;
and he made him suck honey out of the rock,
and oil out of the flinty rock.
14 Curds from the herd, and milk from the flock,
with fat of lambs and rams,
herds of Bashan and goats,
with the finest of the wheat—
and of the blood of the grape you drank wine.

A little more exotic.

But if certainly looks like belief in multiple Gods.

==================

Later edit —

8 “When the Most High assigned lands to the nations,
when he divided up the human race,
he established the boundaries of the peoples
according to the number in his heavenly court.<b>

— NLT, or New Living Translation

footnote <b> = As in Dead Sea Scrolls, which read the number of the sons of God, and Greek version, which reads the number of the angels of God; Masoretic Text reads the number of the sons of Israel.

———

Exotic!

Later edit —

21 “They have roused my jealousy by worshiping things that are not God;
they have provoked my anger with their useless idols.
Now I will rouse their jealousy through people who are not even a people;
I will provoke their anger through the foolish Gentiles.”

—————

And this is what we’re more used to. The surrounding tribes are worshipping “gods” that are just imaginary.

But if certainly looks like belief in multiple Gods.

Found this from Google Ai and it seems to fit - 'henotheism':
Henotheism in the Old Testament refers to a religious viewpoint where a person recognizes the existence of multiple deities but chooses to worship one particular god as supreme. While not a clear, consistent, or definitive feature of the Old Testament, some scholars argue that it represents an early stage in the development of Hebrew monotheism.

It seems that Moses tolerated it for a while.

Looked up which was the first monotheistic religion and I get inconsistent answers. Some sources say Judaism and others say Zoroastrianism. As a Christian, I was taught it was first the Jews then others..:unsure:

Here's one source...
Zoroastrianism is an ancient Persian religion that may have originated as early as 4,000 years ago. Arguably the world’s first monotheistic faith, it’s one of the oldest religions still in existence.

There are multiple gods today. Whatever a person worships is his/her god. Some people worship money, some power, while others worship pleasure. Many people have made themselves their god. In the OT, there were several gods people worshipped...Baal, Ashtoroth, Moloch and Dagon to name a few. These are all manmade gods. Gods created in the minds of man. Here is a verse that shows the folly of worshipping manmade gods: Deut.4:28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. God has made it clear that while man creates other gods, there is no god equal to Him...Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me...

There it is.

Good points here .

I think it was even more broad than that. Whatever you spend or love more than God would probably be counted as idolatry as well. You love money more or women and sex more, then you've essentially idolized them.

I recently watched a movie showing just that happening. Guy gets rich off of stocks... Starts living his dream with women drugs... And then he eventually falls. The Wolf of Wall Street. Might be offensive to some Christians 😉

God has made it clear that
Even if someone is leaning toward Christianity, for example, he or she believe in one God, believes that someone has to pay the price incurred by sin and wrongdoing, etc, there’s a lot in the Bible that is not clear.

And per Gallup poll, the majority of living, breathing Christians are non-literalists as far as the Bible.

I have been a student of the Bible for well over 25 years, and I am still making new discoveries. There are passages that stump me. Rather than concentrate on the difficult parts of the Bible, I focus on what I do understand. If we could comprehend everything about God, He would cease to be God. However, the Gospel is explained in such simplicity that even a child can understand.

As far as the "majority of living, breathing Christians" you mention, they may not actually be believers. There are multitudes of people who claim to be Christians who are as lost as last year's Easter egg. Going to church does not make a person a believer any more than standing in a garage makes them a car. Jesus refers to so called believers in Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Okay, I think people should live wild and free. And some fundies and literalists are “tame” in ways that make for a very boring, over-planned, and tightly-constrained life! At the same time, these type of over-religious Christians can really tie themselves into knots such as —

“I can’t think of the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden.”

“Oh, my God, I’m thinking of the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden.”

“I’m a terrible person.”

For example, because of the porn available on a hotel TV, one Christian men’s group recommended hanging a towel over the TV and placing a Bible on top. You have got to be kidding ? ! ? I can’t hardly think of a way that advertises the porn more, most of which will be crappy and you will not get your $19.99 worth. No matter if the title shows up on the hotel bill, or not!

At the same time, a life of excess ain’t the answer either.

It lasts about 6 weeks, if that.

So, the solution is people you like, respect, and love. With open fields and fresh adventures? ?? Yes, I’d say something a lot like this. :)

It's good she was aware herself. Lots of Christians probably don't even know about Judaism lol
