Debate:

What are the weaknesses of the Republican party?

The Republican leadership tend to be terrible when it comes to their economic policy that benefits the rich more. I understand that a lot of rich people may own businesses and create jobs. But while Republicans tend to want to loosen regulations on the money for the rich (tax loopholes, tax breaks, etc), you find them increasing regulations on the poor by making it harder to get social services and benefits (unemployment benefits, welfare, etc.). It's no secret that the Democrats tend to make it easier for the poor and middle class to get money. Hek, even when it comes to college education costs, you tend to find more Democrats pushing for tuition-free college than Republicans. I believe that making it easier for all to attend college and trade schools would be a huge positive for any society. I've personally gone from the somewhat poor to middle class all because of education.

I have several other problems with the Republican party, like how they tend to not give criminals second chances, but I'll probably leave that to another post.

After watching a documentary on President Obama's election, I'm reminded of a big problem in the Republican problem. I don't think the problem is so much racism nowadays, although there are probably racists among their party ranks. Their big problem is xenophobia. I'm reminded of that after seeing how many of the Republican crowd fed into Obama's birth certificate conspiracy (Birtherism) and how that was a big deal to some of them, as if Obama did not seem American enough according to their traditional views. Then comes President Trump that just put the xenophobia on steroids by using negative messaging against immigrants, esp. Central Americans. His negative messages definitely resonated with the xenophobes.

Keep in mind that 'xenophobia' is not just about prejudice against foreign people, but also of foreign customs and values. In my view, just because someone's values are foreign or goes against traditional American values does not mean that those values are bad. We should be a melting pot of ALL good values and not just the American ones. To many Republicans, American values presumably means White American values. Even if thinks I'm exaggerating but I would say that it is the perception of the Republican party, at least (a lack of diversity in terms of race and culture).

Trump would fly off the handle because of something some doggone celebrity said. And on at least one occasion, he pissed away early a.m. hours responding to it.

He withdrew from Syria.

It was kind of an abrupt decision. Now, to his credit, he allowed himself to be talked out of it.

Then he withdrew from Syria a second time.

We bailed on people who had been supporting us. I think mainly the Kurds, but maybe other armed forces in Syria as well (I think mainly on the anti-government side).

Forget about Trump ever being president again. He seriously wrecked our country during covid outbreak. If he runs again then he will definitely wreck the Republican party for good.

What's the name of that doc film?

This is all a different topic but I think he would toy around with another presidential run. I highly doubt he'd win though.
