I view American politics as being extremely toxic. I have many reasons for my view but I want to also open the floor to everyone else to chime in.

Is American politics toxic? What causes or contributes to that toxic environment?

Can the toxic environment be fixed? If so, how?

In the wake of Charlie Kirk's death, some may think that as long as we're not killing each other, then politics is just fine.

I disagree with that. How you communicate (in a civil way vs. incivility), how you conduct business (in a non-partisan/reaching across the isle way vs. hyperpartisanship), and many other things in between, all contribute to making an environment a good one or a toxic one.

Sadly, what I see are politicians that communicate w/ the other side and the American people in some of the worse ways, like when they use inflammatory/demonizing rhetoric. They conduct business by using cancel culture (silencing and banning)/obstructing/stalling in response to disagreements. This all contributes to a very toxic environment.

It also doesn't help that there is really no one leading by example, or at least no one that stands out. President Trump is very polarizing, many of the more voiceful Democrats and Republicans use inflammatory rhetoric. I'm pessimistic on the political atmosphere. Just being a realist.
