Believers are supposed to be devoted to Jesus Christ and Him alone. We are to look to Christ for protection, not Mary.
Plus, Catholics have patron saints for fishers, farmers, and pretty much every other activity of life! :p and I think some small offshoots of Catholicism and “fusion” faiths are frankly polytheistic

However . . . I kind of think I’d like this magical overlay on life

they left it up to the elites (those in power) to read Scripture and teach it to others. Thankfully now, all Christians can read the Bible and think for themselves.
But we just had a thread that Pontius Pilate probably did NOT let Barabbas go free at Passover. Maybe a short-term release for a lesser criminal. But not some guy who led an insurrection against the Roman Empire.

and we’re left with . . .

Rome murdered a pretty alright guy in Jesus probably because they just didn’t understand him.

Heck, they could have played “divide and conquer” with Israel. If the Jews have a schism, makes the chance of any large-scale rebellion smaller.

And Jesus teaches us today . . .

fully live every day, open up in this regard. Open your heart to helping others. Get good at these skills. Help in a way in which the other person can maintain their dignity. Help in an amount that you later don’t feel resentment about, but instead feel good about.

That's still my position...didn't see anything in my post that you responded to that said otherwise...

Not sure if you saw something different.
