I’m a Democrat. If you’re a Democrat, too, this is where we need to be at our most optimistic and realistic selves. And if you think R’s are sometimes unrealistic —

for example, if Trump goes Big on Tariffs, that will bring a pop of inflation. Of course it will

“rebuilding American manufacturing”

And that’s the way to be both realistic and optimistic. If we’re going to pay the cost, we might as well get the benefit.

And then in 2 years or 4 years, we can ask, How much manufacturing jobs has it built back?

Yeah, eventhough Trump won the popular vote, but we are still in a divided country. I'd like to think that people focused more on policy more than party, or even candidate, at this point. I'm only basing this off of Kamala underperforming with Blacks, Latinos, and women (Biden did better than her in all 3 categories in many states), and these are demographics that I'm sure Democrats thought they had sealed up.

Either way, I hope the American people are willing to return the favor to Trump, to the House members, by voting them out if they also don't shape up or if they become too extreme.

Been listening to some interesting analysis about why Democrats lost and Trump won, and on and on. Might post some good takes later on.

about why Democrats lost and Trump won

maybe because people still think “inflation” is a problem even though actual inflation is down to 2 and a half percent? As if the word “inflation” has become shorthand for other big issues for the economy, such as middle-class jobs being squeezed from both sides.

And some people just plain don’t want to vote for a woman.

I think part of that issue is that people are not just going by what they are experiencing now but are putting together years of inflation under Biden. From what I've seen, inflation was higher than 2% for most of Biden's presidency.

Inflation peaked at 9.1% year-over-year in June 2022, the highest increase in 40 years.

Inflation did come down later on of course, but I saw that it came down to 2.4% just this year.

I also question if lower inflation means lower prices across the board (on all goods/products) or if it's lower in just some areas. For instance, in some places, it could be that housing is still expensive while price of energy is decreasing. Michael Steele on MSNBC made a distinction between the national economy vs. "personal economy".

Well, we kinda have a glimpse of how immigration will be handled, at least the enforcement aspect:

Welcome Tom Homan, the new "Border czar" (start at the 4:05 minute mark)

Or this:

According to the following site, inflation is still way above what it was when Trump was first in office. Trump's inflation rate was 1.9% while Biden's inflation rate is 5.2%. So even if it is now down 2.5 % from the 5.2% it is higher than Trump's.

Look, I think my fellow citizens “blame outcome” in a way no president can satisfy.

From Covid, I think we were lucky to have the relatively small amount of economic disruption we had. And yet, President Trump lost re-election in 2020 because of the Covid recession. And now, in a sense a 2nd administration goes down, even though Vice President Harris tried to say how she’d be different.

And Covid really is the gentlest tap in the shoulder compared to some bad forms of avian flu. Usually, people who catch it are involved in large-scale chicken raising and slaughtering. But if this virus mutated where it could be passed from human to human, that’d be bad.

And according to this, Investopedia has high accuracy and is in the political middle.

So, I’m on board. :)
