“Police and animal services said a little girl was attacked at Parkway Central Park on Saturday.

“Ashley Woolnough, manager of Arlington's animal services, said they set up a trap and were monitoring the area, but couldn't find the coyote.

“On Tuesday, they got another call that a little boy had been bitten. . . ”

Thank goodness both these children were okay. But that’s not always the case. Dear reader, you might remember the “Dingo’s got my baby!” case from Australia.

So, fatal attacks are rare, but it seems to me that all the elements are there.

Some of this is human encroachment on coyote territory. But the coyote is a hunting species who roams. And I kind of thinks coyotes have done well and grown their population in recent years.

“The city of Arlington now says three children were attacked by a coyote at a park.

“The attacks happened Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. . . ”

“ . . . All three children were bitten at the park on the playground or in the parking lot. . . ”

_____________—-__________

These seem like some aggressive coyote)s), not hardly afraid of humans at all.

That's scary, but I'd rather deal with a coyote than a big bear. With a bear on your butt, you may as well start planning what you want on your tombstone or start shaking the bear spray can and just start spraying all over the place.

Yeah, with population increase, humans are bound to encroach on the habitat of animals more and more. Not sure, if there's a fix for that. I know it's up to individual choice, but I certainly don't like living next to water or woods for this very reason.

“The coyote that was caught at a popular Arlington park and was euthanized on Feb. 15 has tested negative for rabies.

“At this point, investigators aren't even completely sure that the coyote they caught was the one who was attacking people at Parkway Central Park. . . ”

“ . . . likely a case of these animals getting too comfortable around humans. . . ”

“ . . . Instead of hunting for food, they're learning to use garbage cans. Instead of being afraid of a human out for a walk, they're used to them. . . ”

“ . . . The best thing you can do is haze, stomp your feet, make noise and show these kinds of animals that you're the big bad guy. It keeps them from feeling superior to you.”

“Haze” means wave your arms and make yourself look bigger.

I did a confident stomp with an aggressive dog and it worked. But each dog has its own personality, and no one thing will work every time.
