As a person that doesn't believe in objective morals, I can accept that it's only my opinion that Moses's sin did not warrant death.

So I respectfully bow out of that type of argument unless it goes against the standards of the Bible itself.
That’s what makes things so interesting, ;)

I’m an atheist / agnostic who does believe in objective morals. For example, even if Mill’s “Principle of Utility” is merely a C+ theory, that’s still kind of an objective theory, right?

And by the way, I think this part of the Bible does contradict other parts which talk about God being merciful and slow to anger.

Well it's objective in the sense that it exists and facts can be derived from it - whatever produces happiness, etc. But that is not what's meant by objective morality, or it would need more justification.

For any moral system to be objective, it must be shown to be something that's not be a product of opinion nor sociocultural conditioning. This usually involves showing that such a moral system has an objective foundation or ontology (it's not derived from humans who just have opinion or it exists in some objective way), it has an objective epistemology (we can know the moral standards). As stated before, Mill's principle probably can meet the latter aspect, but then I can also ask how do we know the principle is correct or that happiness is involved or only that, or whose happiness, etc. Then I don't see how it covers the first aspect of objective ontology because for now it is just an idea - now shown to exist beyond a human's mind nor apply to everyone.

Most people like religion for encouragement. Keep going, keep praying, keep hoping, keep being open to good things.

Please try at forgiveness from time to time, don’t be a fool.

Okay, my friend Mike his real name. Our mutual friend *John, the * means not his real name.

The Church canoe trip in which Mike shared with me that he used to have “victory over masturbation” but not so much now.

There were a couple of new girls going on the trip. The whole thing was highly sexually charged, esp at age 16.

Mike could probably avoid masturbating during the trip because of the potential embarrassment factor, but once he’s back alone in his room that Sunday night …

It would be a fool’s errand! ! !

Mike, *John, and I were all in high school ROTC. There was a student from Turkey or Iran or somewhere also in ROTC, maybe he had dual citizenship.

This young man had a neck medallion which said “God” in stylized letters. John thought it was real cool and complimented it. Mike looked at me, shrugged a question mark and said, “Which God?”

And this really illustrates my two friends , *John more heart, and Mike more brain.

PS In high school, it’s correctly called “Junior ROTC.” But we always called it just ROTC.

Every sin, no matter how small, is an affront to a Holy God
You know, an emergency room doctor or nurse or paramedic can treat people from a wide array of injuries,

from stupidity, greed, and every other imaginable human failing.

But your tightly wound version of Yahweh cannot ? ?

Absolutely He can! It's called Calvary. Jesus' death on the cross was the substitute for every person's sin. Calvary is where we find forgiveness and mercy. While even the smallest sin is offensive to a Holy God, at the foot of the cross even the greatest sin can be forgiven.

There are a lot of good prayers, including Christians, including all kinds of faiths.

John Rawls asks, what society would you pick from behind a “Veil of Ignorance?” Basically,

What level of inequality ? ?

would you choose to be reincarnated into, not knowing if you’re going to end up rich or poor, with or without a disability, etc, etc.

And to make the question rich, assume that capitalism best builds up the middle class. Which I think is kind of true as long as we stay below a certain threshold of monopoly.

I’m still not sure why schools treat those with ADHD or on the autism spectrum as badly as they do ? ? For example, if you miss one assignment, I’m not sure why that wrecks your grade for the semester. :p
