Got to thinking that some people may view agnostics as being loners because we tend to not identify with atheism and Christian groups.

So are agnostics loners?

The short answer is that it depends on why some or most agnostics tend to not identify with these groups.

In my case (perhaps this applies to most other agnostics), I like being non-partisan from an intellectual standpoint. That doesn't mean I won't ever join a group but rather it's that I won't commit to one in some unquestioning/full adherence (cultish-like) type of way. Unfortunately, there are many Christian and atheist groups that I have been part of that tend to expect full adherence or they don't tolerate much deviation/questioning from some established viewpoints, especially when it's involves supporting a viewpoint of an opposing side. Once a group starts to think and behave like an orthodoxy and starts to become needlessly polarizing, then I start to distance myself from it. Of course, I'm still willing to share ideas and have friendly debates with Christians and atheists, and even engage on our shared interests whenever that's possible and attempt to agnostify them ; 0).
