Meet Eden Rose Torres. She's a transgender woman. Ms. Torres posted a 2 part video on social media which she says shows her being discriminated against at a Sonics restaurant. Here are the 2 part video of her interaction with s Sonic's manager:
Ironically, it seems that most of the reactions have actually been negative towards Ms. Torres eventhough she claims to be the victim for being misgendered.
These comments were posted on Youtube (the last one is from Twitter):
"Neither the manager, nor Sonic did anything wrong. This person is insane." - Jeffrey Morris
"I have accidentally called a man, who was clearly a man, ma’am by mistake. Not only did they not care, but were never hateful. Your employee called a transgender person sir, he didn’t refuse to serve them or discriminate against them." - Michelle Witzell
Someone from Sonic (presumably a manager) has reached out to Ms. Torres stating this..
So, for Debate:
1. Was this clear case of transgender or gender discrimination?
2. How can we fix or prevent these cases from happening? Some organizations/corporations have resorted to requiring staff to use gender neutral language when addressing customers.
