How much religion are we going to run on children?

I say, keep it light. Communicate in an age-appropriate way that it’s a fair amount of pretend and acting as if, because we don’t really know for sure! :giggle:

Okay, that part about “any Catholic male” —

1) it’s unfair to half the human race. Actually, slightly more than half the human race, and

2) it’s been like 400 years since the Church has elected a non-Cardinal ! ! !

“ . . . The seventh and eighth grade boys donned scarlet robes, processed into their own Sistine Chapel, locked the doors, and began the secret process of electing the next pope.

“The children weren't able to reach a two-thirds consensus on the first round of ballots, as may be the case in Rome on Wednesday. . . ”

———

Well, I guess if a Catholic school does this, it’s okay. :)

“If no pope is elected after 33 or 34 votes -- generally about 13 days -- then a new rule introduced by Pope Benedict XVI decrees the two leading candidates as determined by previous ballots will engage in a runoff vote.“

——————

And per other sources, you still need 2/3’s of the vote.

Ouch. So, to me, this actually becomes a mistake. By locking in the two front runners, you locking out the chance of a compromise candidate.

But we’re a long way from the 13th day.

Choosing Protestant leader is much easier!
