These boys made it. Dozens of people in the Texas hill country did not make it.

My heart goes out to those going through this. First heard about this story after 27 kids from a Christian campsite went missing.

I haven't heard they found any of them yet but hopefully they are still alive.. maybe just stranded somewhere.

Since last year I keep hearing about several floods happening in Texas. Sounds like they need some advance warning system whereever these floods keep happening.

We had some of these put in place after a flood around 1987. But as you know, too, it’s hard to keep energy for funding all these years. That’s a fact of life, too.

And please don’t lay a bunch of philosophy on someone who’s just lost a family member. A hug and a simple “I’m sorry” is more than enough.

Agreed. Just yesterday, the media was reporting that the 27 girls were still missing but today's update is that they are all deceased.


Politics and religion will eventually barge in and we'll have the blame game starting. And i think there's a time for that as well, and it will vary based on each grieving person,

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas had previously called a special session due to start July 21 for other issues. I hope there’s an orderly way to add flood warning and/or flood control.

I guess there’s a choice of modern vs. “old school” or some mix of both?

It was Scott Ruskan’s first mission as a US Coast Guard rescue swimmer.

“ . . Texas Air National Guard aircraft landed at the camp’s archery field and soccer field, and Ruskan led the children, about 10 to 15 at a time, to the aircraft. He focused on getting the youngest children out first.

“Ruskan helped rescue approximately 165 campers with him, carrying some to the helicopter to help them avoid slipping on wet rocks or cutting their feet even more. . “

Somehow I want to point out that more people were rescued at Camp Mystic than died. Meaning, people definitely were in there trying.

Yes, people might call 26-year-old Scott Ruskan a hero. But this member of the U.S. Coast Guard would probably say he was just doing his job. And he’d probably thank his team and the more experienced people who helped to train him.

and then there’s survivor’s guilt, and this messes with people, course it does.

People are just highly varied in the way they respond to tragedy and loss. Sometimes the little things end up nagging at you the most, and the person can feel guilty and embarrassed about that part.

Yes. First thing acknowledge the problems. Then fix. People usually don't get passed the first phase or they deal with some problems while ignoring others.

Priority though should be focused on finding survivors and getting others out of the danger areas.
