.... a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.

"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."

Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.

And, predictably, he drowns.

A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"

God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

Evangelical Christians often tell this story on themselves! Meaning, they appreciate the irony. And they realize that we humans have to do our part, too! :)

Please notice the different Bible versions.

When I had a sincere and profound “born again” experience, subtle but profound, at age 13 in October 1976, the Revised Standard Version was the major mainstream version, at least in evangelical churches.

insert image of cell here. I guess maybe a star with a planet or a planet with a moon maybe works too
I like this, very beautiful and poetic.

And maybe an emergent property of a complex system . . . explains the spark of the divine?
funny, i just finished a thing about Eve that has some commentary on that, https://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Eve.html
guess i could have been more specific lol, sorry…

“Instead of predominantly pointing toward the verb חיה (haya), to live, our name Eve (חוה) is spelled and (according to the Masoretes) pronounced identical to the noun חוה (hawwa), tent village, from the root חוה(hawa), to cluster up in order to be viable:”

Wisdom is hidden from the wise for a reason i guess; im not a fan of proving facts from the Bible, but i guess it serves to illustrate the futility of reading that way?

Jonah being swallowed by a fish, the allegory just seems obvious to me; doesnt mean im right i guess, but the perspective seems to have brought lasting insight

not sure why Nain would be reminiscent of Hiram? He usually splains that stuff, hmm

It seems obvious to me, too.

Now, I think the social dynamic is that if I'm saying this to an evangelical Christian, he or she's going to start to get embarrassed, feel they're being attacked. And end up getting more entrenched.

If they're talking to fellow evangelical, there's going to be a different kind of embarrassed laugh. More an eye-to-eye shared connection, and might more readily admit, just don't know.
