In my view, this is nothing more but partisan spin. Where I feel his sentiment is correct is that it does look bad for Democrats expending so much energy on not deporting illegal immigrants (without due process) while it seemed they spent little energy defending the border or in stopping illegal immigrants from entering the US in the first place. Regardless of the bad optics, I wouldn't say Democrats want rapists and gangbangers to stay in the country, but rather a good number of them want hardworking illegal immigrants to stay in the country. The issue is that President Trump's administration says they are targeting only criminal immigrants, but then there are reports of them going targeting non-criminal immigrants, like street vendors. It is the non-criminal undocumented migrants that I would think the Democrats are pushing to have due process. Yes, it can be taken as a stall tactic just to slow Trump's progress, and it doesn't look good when placed together with how Biden handled the border.
