CNN reports: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/06/06/politics/kilmar-abrego-garcia
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March, will be returned to the US, where he will face federal criminal charges, a law enforcement source told CNN.

For months, the Trump administration has been locked in an intense standoff with the federal judiciary over court orders for the government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return from El Salvador, where he was mistakenly deported in mid-March, in a situation that one federal judge warned could present an “incipient crisis” between the two branches.

Abrego Garcia has been indicted on two criminal counts in the in the Middle District of Tennessee: conspiracy to unlawfully transport illegal aliens for financial gain and unlawful transportation of illegal aliens for financial gain.

Any thoughts? Why couldn't this be done earlier?

For now, I honestly think Trump knew the judges were putting pressure on him to penalize his administration for not bringing Abrego Garcia back. So now he's complying by bringing Garcia back, but with the narrative that it is for justice (instead of court ordered return).

That's the politics I think Trump is playing.

But I believe the lawful and right thing should've been for them to bring him back as soon as they were able to, and have him stand trial and get the due process that way. Then go from there pending the outcome.

This is just another example of Trump's negatives that I wrote about here...

Based on teh charges I read in the article below, I also think what's going on is that Trump admin knew they would have to return him, but before they did, they were hard at work building a case against him. That way, when he comes back to the US, they already have a strong case against him.
