May 13, 2021 -- A new study found that more than 99% of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 during the first four months of 2021 weren’t fully vaccinated.

There's a common theme among those behind the worsening Covid-19 numbers, said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

"This is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated," Walensky said at a Covid-19 briefing Friday.

More than 97% of people getting hospitalized with Covid-19 now are unvaccinated, Walensky said.

And 99.5% of deaths are among the unvaccinated, US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said Sunday.

I recently retired from healthcare but I will always think like a nurse.

It's frustrating to see Covid-19 on the rise again because people fail to get vaccinated. You put yourself and others at risk, period.

If the information above doesn't give the unvaccinated a wake up call then I am not sure what will.

The people who are delaying or refusing covid-19 vaccination are taking a big risk. But one thing I don't want to do is limit debate. In the spirit of open-mindedness, I think debate should be allowed just as long as there is good evidence coming from those that question covid-19 or the vaccine. I would also hope that their evidence is good enough to counter the evidence for vaccinations. Otherwise, we may be left in a position where there's evidence for both sides of the issue, and that may leave many uncertain.

Saying it is debatable gives the impression that vaccinations are questionable. That is really misleading.

People should not be so open minded that they would give room to falsehoods that lead to harm and even death.

Sorry, I know it's your site. but allowing any nonsensical view to be a topic will add no value here.

The last post didn't come out the best way so here's a better version:

One of my goals is to preserve an agnostic themed atmosphere. One aspect of that is being open-minded to the point to where everything can be questioned. This doesn't automatically mean that covid-19 or vaccinations for it are questionable. Someone can question something by simply asking for evidence for it. Again, that alone doesn't show anything wrong with your view on covid-19. However, if someone is able to provide logic and evidence showing that the information on covid-19 or vaccinations is wrong, then that's where saying that it's questionable comes in.

If I see that someone is trying to argue a point that has already been shown to be wrong, then and only then will I shut down the debate. But I'm willing to at least give people a chance to make their case first before shutting it down.

I'm open to compromises, but I won't change much from this position given the goals of this forum.

I'm glad you bring this up. It is very important - literally a matter of life and death. I also agree there is no reason to treat the opposing views on this as if they were equally respectable, either morally or intellectually. This is a great exemplar for a "false equivalence".

I certainly don't think any consideration of what would be fitting for debate is at all relevant in a thread started in the discussion sub forum.

Post was lost during downtime. Post Author TracyRN:

The bottom line on vaccines according to the Centers for Disease Control: and Prevention:
Evidence suggests the U.S. COVID-19 vaccination program has substantially reduced the burden of disease in the United States by preventing serious illness in fully vaccinated people and interrupting chains of transmission. Vaccinated people can still become infected and have the potential to spread the virus to others, although at much lower rates than unvaccinated people. The risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection in fully vaccinated people are higher where community transmission of the virus is widespread. Current efforts to maximize the proportion of the U.S. population that is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 remain critical to ending the COVID-19 pandemic.
