Matthew chapter 16, “ . . except the sign of Jonah . . ” — yet another example of more focus on Paul’s letters than on the 3 Synoptic Gospels.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/394262/fewer-bible-literal-word-god.aspx Most actual Christians believe the Bible is “inspired, not literal.” Now, a close 2nd is the “word by word” belief. And really, Jonah and the Whale might be the number one example of people not believing the Bible is...

Google AI — "The Synoptic Gospels are the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke in the New Testament, named so because they share significant similarities in content, style, and chronological order, allowing them to be ‘seen together’ . . . ” ——— Okay, so synoptic is more of a fancy word...

Matthew chapter 16, verse 19 “ . . and whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, . . “ — yet another binary on salvation? ??

Alright, it sounds like Catholicism is not for you. I’d just add, be careful of “non-denominational” mega-churches where a lot of … faith is put on the leader.

Featured Matthew ch 16, verse 28, Jesus says “ . . there are some standing here who will not taste death . . ”

Wow, I love it! But that is really way out there. The words which were put in Jesus’ mouth — “there are some standing here who will not taste death” — which he may or may not have actually said, but I think it just means the second coming was going to be soon.

Matthew chapter 16, verse 19 “ . . and whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, . . “ — yet another binary on salvation? ??

Return To Me This is a romantic comedy from 2000. A man loses his wife in a car accident and he donates her organs, including her heart. He later meets and falls in love with the woman who received the heart. I understand this was more realistic when organ donations were run on a regional...

Matthew chapter 16, verse 19 “ . . and whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, . . “ — yet another binary on salvation? ??

Now that you’re not so fervent, maybe you could cut Catholics so slack? Most Catholics, I think go their credit, take the Bible with a light touch, as well as taking their religion itself with a bit of a light touch. The one I’d step gingerly with are these large mega-churches in America which...

Matthew ch 16, verse 23, Jesus says to Peter “Get behind me, Satan!” . . . Did Jesus later give Peter an apology?

This is because you’re viewing Jesus and Peter as near-equals. Or as equal enough that it matters how Jesus treats Peter. There’s this guy who writes about dysfunctional families who writes about the “poisonous” mindset. And when of these poisonous beliefs is “The child is responsible for the...

Matthew ch 16, verse 23, Jesus says to Peter “Get behind me, Satan!” . . . Did Jesus later give Peter an apology?

My mother was raised in the Catholic Church way back in the 1940’s and early 50’s. And after a sermon [called a ”homily” by Catholics], they were back home in their kitchen. My Mom as a girl said something about the sermon. And her mother said in a quick aside, “I think the devil is a...

Featured Matthew ch 16, verse 28, Jesus says “ . . there are some standing here who will not taste death . . ”

All depends on how you read it. In this very chapter of Matthew, chapter 16, it says — “verse 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Sounds rather mystical, doesn’t it? , even though it’s also saying “for my sake.” ——— Similar...

Featured Matthew ch 16, verse 28, Jesus says “ . . there are some standing here who will not taste death . . ”

Jesus, as presented, was an interesting mix of end-time preacher and zen master. On the zen side, he’s saying embrace the wonder of life right now, appreciate other people right now. I personally would add “flaws and other.” So, a real person , but a lot of stories attached to him. He was a...
