In John chapter 20, Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me..” and delegates forgiveness of sins to his disciplines? Apparently so.

Again, Peter was not in charge. James was. Catholics put more emphasis on their traditions than they do Biblical teachings.

Well I hate to hear this. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Thank you AB for allowing me to be a small part of this forum. Fair winds and following seas.

Just a little FYI, Peter was not even over the church in Jerusalem. James, the half brother of Jesus, was in charge. See Acts 12:17 and Acts 15:13. James was not even one of Jesus’ disciples. Also, there is no Biblical evidence Peter ever went to Rome, much less became a pope.

Feel free to research this for yourself. You don’t have to take my word for it. If I said “I don’t know “, I would be lying. And I don’t lie.

In John chapter 20, Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me..” and delegates forgiveness of sins to his disciplines? Apparently so.

That is exactly what the verse says. What Jesus called Peter was Πέτρος (petros). The word petros means “a piece of rock, small stone” (Strongs G4074) However, Jesus said He would build His church on the rock (petra) πέτρα which means “mass of rock; boulder” (Strongs 4073). Jesus was making a...

In John chapter 20, Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me..” and delegates forgiveness of sins to his disciplines? Apparently so.

Nope. Peter had no more authority than any other disciple. Jesus said He would build His church on the truth that Peter confessed. That Jesus was the Son of God.

Verses do not take precedence over others. They harmonize with each other. Proper hermeneutics are essential in understanding the scriptures.

In John chapter 20, Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me..” and delegates forgiveness of sins to his disciplines? Apparently so.

Admittedly, this is a difficult passage of scripture to understand. Unfortunately, many have assumed the privilege of forgiving sins, which God never gave to humans. It is impossible to forgive someone who offended or hurt another. In the same way it is impossible for a man to forgive another...

Christianity was brand new. The church was an institution that had not existed in the past. Yes there were problems and yes there continue to be problems. However, every problem in principle the church faces today has already been addressed in Paul’s epistles. God’s plan of salvation, and His...

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

The same principle applies. Just because God allows things to happen doesn’t mean He endorses those actions. Jacob had two wives and two concubines that gave him 12 sons. I have a pastor friend who has one wife and they have 12 children (11 boys 1 girl). Had Jacob remained monogamous God could...

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

Ok so let me make one final point. Hugh Hefner was by man’s standards very successful. He had amassed a fortune, literally lived in a mansion, and was surrounded by beautiful women his entire life. Was his success because of God’s blessings or in spite of God’s blessings?

Those who know the Author of the Bible have no problem understanding right from wrong. We don’t need anything added to the Bible because we see the perfection of the scriptures. Technology changes; customs change. But man’s nature remains the same through the millennia. That is why the truths...

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

I have no problem agreeing to disagree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion when there is no direct reference to a topic. I have drawn an opinion from context clues, and you have drawn a different opinion. So be it. Do you believe God sees polygamy as immoral today?

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

While there is no direct prohibition for most men in the Bible to have more than one wife, there are indicators that God was against the practice. Abraham took two wives and there was turmoil in his house because of that: Genesis 16:5-6 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have...

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

Just because God allows something does not mean He’s ok with it. Do you believe God is ok with abortion? Do you believe He is ok with genocide? No, I didn’t forget. But look at your own response: Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was...

Every moral issue we face today is addressed in scripture. Gay marriage…forbidden. AI…if it’s used for good, then good. If it’s used for evil, forbidden. Cloning…God is the giver of all life. And we do have direct access to God for clear and relevant positions for every issue. That direct...

Featured Polygamy was immoral according to a Catholic author. My response to this.

Divorce and remarriage was allowed under Jewish law but that was not God’s plan. Nowhere in Scripture do we read of God encouraging multiple wives. God allows people to lie and steal, but He does not support such actions. The same applies to marriage. God’s intent has always been one man and one...

The Revelation of Jesus is the conclusion of the story of God’s redemption of mankind. In Revelation we see Jesus as the King of Kings who finally and forever defeats Satan and all of his evil associates. In Revelations we see perfect justice executed on the ungodly. Believers receive glorified...
