What makes the United States think that Russia won't also come up with their own digital currency or even adopt some of the pre-existing cryptocurrencies out there (e.g. Bitcoin, Etheruem, etc.)? That would seem reasonable given that their currency is sinking due to all of the sanctions everyone is putting on them. China is also working on developing a digital currency.
