Source: https://www.gao.gov/blog/artificial...growth-highlight-its-possibilities-and-perilsThe rise of artificial intelligence has created growing excitement and much debate about its potential to revolutionize entire industries. At its best, AI could improve medical diagnosis, identify potential national security threats more quickly, and solve crimes.
Generative AI systems can create text (apps like ChatGPT and Bard, for example), images, audio, video, and other content when prompted by a user. These growing capabilities could be used in a variety of fields such as education, government, law, and entertainment. As of early 2023, some emerging generative AI systems had reached more than 100 million users. Advanced chatbots, virtual assistants, and language translation tools are examples of generative AI systems in widespread use. As news headlines indicate, this technology continues to gain global attention for its benefits.
But there are concerns too, such as how it could be used to replicate work from authors and artists, generate code for more effective cyberattacks, and even help produce new chemical warfare compounds, among other things. Our recent Spotlight on Generative AI takes a deeper look at how this technology works.
I'm a huge fan of Ai since I can see it being used to enpowers mankind to do a lot of things. I use it on a small scale to find out more about viewpoints. I used to spend over an hours trying to plan and design logos but now Ai cuts that down to a minute - could be more if you want to tweak the results some.
But it's that part in green highlight that worries me. Can Ai be used to aid in bad stuff? I see that it already is being used for bad stuff when it comes to 'deep fakes' where images (and probably even the sound of their voice) are used in a video to give some message. Imagine some image of Biden or Trump, and their voice, being used to give a message, and a harmful one at that. This might be far fetched but if Ai ever integrated into a body, like a robotic one, then that might create even bigger problems. Ever watch I, Robot?
What's your view on Ai? Do you think it will do more harm than good? I'm pessimistic about it but that could be because I've watched too many movies on it that end bad (Skynet?!).
