Okay, so it looks like War is becoming inevitable. Russia is looking to invade Ukraine. Nato is preparing militarily as well as Ukraine. The United States is trying not to get too involved but may have to. Both countries have nukes.

Why is Russia threatening Ukraine?
Russia denies it's planning any invasion, but it has seized Ukrainian territory before and it has an estimated 100,000 troops deployed near its borders.

Russia has long resisted Ukraine's move towards European institutions, and Nato in particular.

Ukraine shares borders with both the EU and Russia, but as a former Soviet republic it has deep social and cultural ties with Russia, and Russian is widely spoken there.

But tensions are high and President Vladimir Putin has threatened "appropriate retaliatory military-technical measures" if what he calls the West's aggressive approach continues.

Nato's secretary general warns the risk of conflict is real and President Biden says his guess is that Russia will move in. The US says it knows of Russian plans to boost its forces near Ukraine "on very short notice".

For Debate:
Will Russia invade Ukraine?
Will the United States be drawn into war with Russia?
And the most important question, will this lead to another world war?

Putin lied when he said he had no intention of invading Ukraine, giving us a good hint, nay, a bad hint of his veracity.

The U. S. will inevitably be drawn into this beginning WW III the longer Putin sits on the pot. If not by intention, but by accident NATO territory will be violated!

That's a scary thought but a likely scenario. I think the US and Russia are too far apart (and it's getting worse) to come to any agreement. What might change is if Putin loses power or if there's some brilliant diplomatic third party out there, that can listen to both sides and get them to at least settle on calming down.

Negotiations seem to be going nowhere. How can anyone negotiate with a monster like Putin? He's painted himself into a corner and now Russia is seen in all its callousness. The people there are so brainwashed they believe him and not the rest of the world -- indeed, it should be a hint to them that they can't view news from other places on the planet!

Oh, I'm sure there are many like Alexei Navalny but, unlike him, are afraid to come out against Putin. He is like a tick that can't be squashed, but killed only when pinned and then seared over a flame. Yes, poison would work, but then he probably has staff that tastes his food.

I think he has gone beyond the limit of sanity. He now ranks way down there with Hitler and Stalin. Would Hitler have used nuclear warheads in his final days? I answer that in an article on Putin in my blog: putin-trumpdogshow.com. It is not a promising scenario.
