The show called The View covered the border topic, esp. mass deportations. 3 out of the 4 hosts were against mass deportations.

Some of the points that 2 of the hosts argued was the mass deportations would cause harm to the economy and to labor. That mainly means that the low wage jobs that immigrants tend to occupy will go unfilled given Americans don't want those jobs. Another point brought up is that immigrants pay about $96 billion in federal, state, and local taxes and we'd lose that revenue if they are deported.

For Debate:
1. Are mass deportations wrong or harmful to society?
2. Are the points above from the show wrong?

I’m happy to take this 1st step even if we don’t get a 2nd step.

I won't say that a mass deportation would be wrong or harmful to society in all cases. It certainly wouldn't be wrong from a moral standpoint if the deportees are in a country illegally. BUT, where I buy the argument of mass deportation harming the economy is when there are a lot of illegal immigrants and they are already established and contributing to the economy.

Although, there's also the scenario of a massive number of immigrants entering the country, typically over a short span of time, and overburdening the system and they can not get established in time and that leaves the taxpayers having to foot the bill. This scenario played out in New York when a large number of migrants arrived and needed housing and other support. It got to a point where the Gov. Hochul of New York had to ask for federal assistance. If taxes that migrant paid was enough to cover them, which avoids the taxpayers having to foot the bill, then NY Governor Hochul would not have had to ask federal assistance. This shows that the scenario of migrants not needing support from American taxpayers is not always a valid point.

Agreed. At the basic level, your points would all point towards an orderly process which is utterly lacking no. Having people show up unexpectedly, and in large numbers, is not sustainable.

Just watched an interesting news segment on mass deportation..

What's left out of these conversations for those who don't want mass deportations is talks about keeping people from coming in illegally or from the massive influxes, at least. Do we just keep letting in more and more and never deport? If so, that would be open borders, in effect. Which is why I think that talks about amnesty (which is what not having mass deportation would come with) should only come after there is comprehensive immigration reform. Otherwise we'll again be facing this problem a few years down the line.
