Weds, 3:40 pm Eastern time —

“Milton is the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic Basin in terms of pressure since Hurricane Wilma, which hit Florida in 2005.”

================

Yes, this will be a bad one.

And I hope the experiences of flash flooding in North Carolina and Tennessee are not repeated. It can be areas with hills and topography and dry creek beds where the flooding can be greater than expected.

I was visiting east coast of Florida and decided to ride out the storm. Luckily there was little to no damage at the hotel I was staying at since Milton passed north of us. One thing that was scary is that this storm developed into a strong hurricane in a matter of days.. the weather guys kept referring to it as "rapid intensification". Usually these hurricanes form off of the coast of Africa and Florida gets a week or more advance warning.

Rapid intensification = you got a day or 2 to dodge a hurricane (that's how it felt at least!)

I’m glad you’re okay, man! :)

I wasn't afraid. To the contrary, I was skeptical that the storm would impact as many areas of Florida as the news media was portraying. I've seen them do it for weaker hurricanes.

I don't really advise anyone to follow my reaction, unless you're able to tell hype from fact.

If there's any advice to give, I would say find a good weatherman to listen to, one who is good at presenting need-to-know information , especially for your area, and without the hype. If you're on the coast where impact is expected then I would just go ahead and evacuate. Better advice is never live by the coast (its fine to visit though!).

Oh, and panic shoppers. If you're staying in Florida during hurricane season, it's always best to already have some essential supplies stored somewhere (water, canned goods, additional fuel, etc) so that way you're not caught up among the panic shoppers that are shopping just days before the hurricane is coming in. Or at least having most supplies already, you'll just need a few stuff.
