I've expected for the media to be independent of corporations and government so that we can trust and rely on them to ask the tough questions in order to find or expose the truth. Well, this story from Fox News sort of shattered that view:

CNN's Chris Cuomo rehearsed interview with Cohen ahead of 2018 TV appearance, leaked audio shows

'Cuomo Prime Time' anchor advised ex-Trump attorney how to dodge questions about hush money payments

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo appeared to go above and beyond standard interview prep in 2018 when he gave former Trump attorney Michael Cohen advice about what he should say in an appearance on the network, new audio shows.

At the time, Cohen was being scrutinized over hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal in the final days before the 2016 election. In August 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts, including campaign finance violations.

At that point, Cuomo appeared to coach Cohen through a hypothetical interview.

"You will be asked that and you can say, 'I did it for [Donald Trump]. My relationship has always been for him. I've always said I don't speak for the campaign. I speak for him as his attorney,'" Cuomo told Cohen. "And to the question of motive ... the response would have to be, 'You can speculate as to why you think I did it all day long, but the only answer is my answer and I just told you why I did it. You don't get to speculate because if you can't prove that I got paid back by Trump or the campaign, it is slander and defamation for you to say that I did.'"

Cuomo offered further advice for Cohen about how he should respond to questions about a shell corporation he used to pay the women, urging Cohen to say, "I'm not being shady. I was being legal and I did it my way. You're wrong about the LLC ... I've used it for other things. I have tons of LLCs. I did not form it just to do this. And even if I had, my whole point would have been to keep it quiet. But that happens to just not be true."

The anchor even suggested Cohen attack the media, telling him to say, "Unlike the media, who is reporting on this, I don't like to say things just cause they are convenient when they are untrue."

Eventually, the two of them engage in a hypothetical interview exchange before the "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor suggests that would be willing to help Cohen if he landed in "trouble."

I've also heard reports of President Biden having note cards on what to say and who in the media to call on for a question. Could it be that Biden at times know which questions will be asked and therefore knows how to answer it? I guess that's not always a bad thing either, not as bad as the above story where the reporter gives the person being interviewed the answer or tells them what to say.

For Debate:
1. What's your reaction to the above story? Do you think it's a widespread problem in the mainstream media?
2. Is there any other evidence of the media having scripted interviews? Please share!

Sure, I buy it. We, the people, are a helluva lot smarter and street wise than the media jackals think. Just consider the stupid arsine commercial sensate impression we are bombed with. Talk 'bout insulting our intelligence, they are saying to our collective face that we remain a docile, gullible automatons genuflecting to their regurgitation.

@Pancho144

Yeah, I'd like to think that most people are not as easily duped. This is why it's good to have these things exposed from time to time.

And here goes another piece of evidence which I think is pretty bad. I question if all or a lot of the interviews where President Biden seems to talk normally or does a decent job was just a matter of him already knowing what he would say beforehand, and perhaps he practiced and rehearsed what he was going to say..

New YorkCNN — Radio host Andrea Lawful-Sanders has resigned from WURD Radio after admitting her post-debate interview with President Joe Biden included questions that were pre-selected by Biden’s campaign team, the station told CNN Sunday.

“WURD Radio is not a mouthpiece for the Biden or any other Administration,” she added.

Lawful-Sanders, who hosted “The Source,” spoke with Biden last week and asked him four questions about what’s at stake in this election, his accomplishments, his debate performance and what he would say to hesitant voters. In an interview Saturday with CNN’s Victor Blackwell, she said those questions were part of eight that were recommended to her by Biden aides ahead of the interview.

“The questions were sent to me for approval. I approved them,” she said.

from Fox News sort of shattered that view:
Fox News selectively reports true stuff as a general rule. So, I’m going to assume the stuff about Chris Cuomo is true.

Absolutely, this is the wrong way to do it on Chris’s part. The right way is to say to Michael Cohen, I’m going to ask you questions about the hush money payments. Are you willing to answer them? If Cohen says Yes, well, then if he gives half-answers or non-answers during the interview, you have the fact that he agreed ahead of time as a club to beat up on him.

And you just tell your audience at the beginning—

I’ve told Michael Cohen I’m going to be asking questions about the hush money payments, and he’s agreed to answer them. I have not told him the content of my question.

[ although per this Fox story, Chris did tell the content]

In my own writing, I have the goal that my audience is slightly smarter than I am. They just don’t happen to know this particular subject matter.

PS I probably fail at this goal a bunch. But that’s what I set out to do.
