Churchill Downs sees eighth horse death as Rio Moon euthanized at home of the Kentucky Derby
Rio Moon "suffered a catastrophic injury" and was euthanized, becoming the eighth horse to die at the iconic track in recent weeks.

“ . . Two horses were euthanized after being injured in races on the Kentucky Derby undercard on May 6, Churchill Downs has confirmed. Five others were euthanized after training and racing incidents at the track in the days leading up to the Derby. . ”

Plus, the 8th horse above suffered a “catastrophic injury” and was euthanized.
Yes, it’s a spectacular event, and yes, it’s true that everything in life is risky, etc, etc. But at a certain point, maybe it is pushing the horses too far.
And most of us could probably agree that the event should be fun and not so hugely high stakes, but . . . That ain’t going to happen! If anything, sports are going to be more and more highly “monetarized.” 😜
