@AgnosticBoy I guess Bart Ehrman said this, “Hardly anyone in the ancient world lived past the age of 65.” and just flat disagree with him. In the ancient world, a lot of children didn’t make it to age 5 because of infectious disease, and this is a full-fledged tragedy. And I think a source...

    Featured Thought Crimes

I agree that a desire is more something than a mere thought. But the word “unbridled” seems to set up a self-fulfilling prophecy. Meaning that Merriam-Webster is kind of giving a max definition of lust. PS congrats on your having a good relationship. :)

Please see 4:53 into video He’s saying Justin Martyr quoted different parts of the 4 gospels in his writings, but just said each time — “Memoirs of the Apostles.” Okay, I’m sorry the guy was murdered for his beliefs, but it looks like the 4 gospels don’t have the definite authors modern...

A lot of things I say are going to be what I best remember. And this might well be the case with you, too. On this I remember it’s the YouTube publisher “Paulogia” who likes to describe himself as “a former Christian looking at the claims of Christians.” And yes, I’m going to be able to give...

in 1st Corinthians, Paul is all across the board on whether it’s okay for a Christian to eat food offered to Pagan god

Continuing with non-religious ethics . . . I’d say, this is fine. It’s easily a B+ standard. :) Of course, we humans seem to immediately jump to the exceptions, such as, “saying ‘always be moderate’ is itself a non-moderate statement.” Yep, you’ve got us there! So, we’ll make it … most...

I think I’d still say don’t make a big deal of it. Talk to someone. For example, I’d say your regular doctor is probably under-utilized for quick life advice. Or your bartender. Hopefully, he’d say— Man, if you do something like that, I’m going to kick your butt. Just telling you in...

The big, sprawling “Four Humors” theory of health, but smaller theories have been much more helpful

Let me tell you, this whole business about the “promptings” of the Holy Spirit rocked my world and not in a good way. And add to this … worrying about “disobedience” to the Holy Spirit, and it made for a pretty bad situation. What would NOT have helped would have been an adult preaching...

I think religion is fine as metaphor, and as familiar words for marriage and birth [not necessarily in that order!], and for funerals which are also part of the natural flow of life. The problem is that teenagers take all this seriously. And this was certainly the case with me.
