I have not been a fan of pandemic lockdowns because it would obviously harm the economy and it unnecessarily prohibits everyone. Even during the first ever covid-19 wave, I always thought that those who are young and/or those without chronic disease should've not been locked down since that population had minor symptoms to covid-19. I would've been okay putting those at most risk on lockdown or some type of outdoor restrictions. Well, I guess some nations are starting to get it.

Now Germany is issuing a lockdown that just targets the unvaccinated.

Berlin (CNN)Germany on Thursday announced a nationwide lockdown for the unvaccinated, as its leaders backed plans for mandatory vaccinations in the coming months.

Unvaccinated people will be banned from accessing all but the most essential businesses, such as supermarkets and pharmacies, to curb the spread of coronavirus, outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and her successor, Olaf Scholz, announced Thursday, following crisis talks with regional leaders.

The pair also backed proposals for mandatory vaccinations, which if voted through the parliament could take effect from February at the earliest.

Under the tightened restrictions, unvaccinated people can only meet two people from another household. Bars and nightclubs must shut down in areas with an incidence rate above 350 cases per 100,000 people over one week. And the country would limit the number of people at large events like soccer matches.

For Debate:
1. Do you agree with targeted lockdowns?
2. Will targeted lockdowns help prevent the spread of covid-19 or do we need broader lockdowns?

Thank you for bringing up the issues.

But no, I don’t think targeted lockdowns are a good thing. It seems to separate society into first-class and second-class citizens.

Even in a Star Trek Next Generation type of world, vaccines would be an individual choice type of thing (except in the gravest of circumstances, and this isn’t even close).

The one exception might be to require medical people to get vaccinated.

I think this is the key here. Some think of covid-19 as being an imminent threat while others not so much.

I certainly don't think it's the end of the world, but then again I'm still young. I'm willing the bet that the majority population who are saying it's a choice are mostly young.

I’m 58-years-old and a nerd, which means I’m not hugely sociable.

Okay, a goodly percentage of the older white guys I talk with in sports bars, a little bit under the surface, a whole lot of anger. Most of it directed toward “the gubmint.”

As if the economy would be perfect without meddling. And no, it wouldn’t.

And I think that’s a large part of the anger, losing formerly privileged positions.

Plus, about 30% of people — or more — seem to believe in conspiracy theory. Maybe that’s always been there.

* Meaning, some older people say vaccine should be a choice, too.

Got ya. Luv the accent! Gubmint <--- 😂

I used to be part of both parties. I now consider myself an independent because I agree with good policies from both sides, and I'm willing to vote for either side. Generally, i try not to question the government eventhough I know they are corrupt in some ways.

The problem revealed with lockdowns is that we exist within a type of prison and societies model themselves accordingly. Some are seeing this as threatening their freedom and the reasoning is flawed because the freedom had is due to the price folk pay and we only pay for things which are not free.
Nature has a way of revealing the weakness in our social structures.
The economy is the source of our problems because it is designed in the manner that humans are beholding to it, rather than it to humans and thus when it is threatened, so too are humans and we then look for ways in which to fight the threat so that we can get about doing what we have normally done, undeterred by the thought that trying to fix something that has really always been broken, will secure the freedom we have to continue unmolested.
